Because of floods and fire, a lot of MOBA history has been destroyed. We have worked hard to re-create a history of our association. We would like to thank all those who have
served OHBA/MOBA since 1946.
MOBA’s Many Past Accomplishments
MOBA was the primary force in the lobbying efforts to bring NIFA to Nebraska, making thousands of new and used homes affordable for the customers of our Builder member and Realtors.
MOBA was a major force in of the successful effort to pass LB755, which opened up the door for job growth in Nebraska and spurred economic development.
MOBA introduced legislation to establish the 10-year statue of limitations for Builders in the State of Nebraska, prior to this bill the builder’s liability went on indefinitely
MOBA worked to successfully eliminate another set of permits and inspections for our sewer contractors. This reduced costs and delays on job sites and continued to be successful.
MOBA lobbied locally in the past for issues concerning new requirements for basement waterproofing, new requirements for foundation back fill compaction, changes in the process
of telephone service installation during land development, affordable housing issues, builder, subcontractor, and remodeler contractor licensing. In addition, MOBA worked on Workman’s
Compensation insurance issues, lien law issues and much more.
MOBA worked and continues to work with the City of Omaha on every building code revision to measure the impact of the code changes for our members and their customers.
MOBA partnered with NAHB and with the help of Mayor Hal Daub, helped to implement the passage of the current property right legislation now pending in Washington.
MOBA was pivotal in grassroots efforts on lumber, interest rates, property rights, and the EPA.
MOBA is still providing, after 60 years….
Education and Seminars to its members concerning everything from OSHA regulations, fork lift operation, mold elimination,
siding applications, customer relations, accounting, erosion control and building codes.
Networking opportunities available through dinner meetings, golf leagues, golf outings, bowling nights and other social activities. This creates business contacts and many good
friendships, as well as loyalty among the members.
Industry exposure to thousands of prospective customers through events such as the Street of Dreams, Fall and Spring Parade of Homes, the Omaha Home and Builders Show and the
Remodel Omaha Tour.
A spokesperson for the building industry in Omaha concerning all building related issues.
Scholarships, training and encouragement to those young people who want to pursue a career in the home building industry.
In 2006, MOBA played a major role in the repeal of LB968, the State Sales Tax on Remodeling and Home Repairs. Thus, eliminating these sales taxes from further infiltrating the
building industry.
“MOBA is a valuable asset that we should all be proud of because we are MOBA. We should be proud to be a member and we should be dedicated in seeing to its future successes.” Denny
VanMoorleghem, May 1998
